5 Wedding Dress + Accessory Trends for 2020
Do you ever see some magazine in the check-out line talking about how celebrities are “just like you”….like Lucy Hale and her dog spotted at Michael’s stocking up on stay at home crafts and then we’re supposed to get really excited because WOAH, we do that too?! Do we think the same thing applies when it comes to weddings and planning? From the crazy budgets (who knew 1 million was a budget??) to the plated 5 course menus, over the top decor, and so on - it’s hard not to get swept up in all the elements!
Just like us, celebrities pay attention to wedding trends – even if they are the ones we tend to turn to for the ideas. Whatever trend they lean towards the most, they often times end up making it an even bigger trend. Why? Because they’re celebrities!
While we all might not be able to fly in our guests to a secret wedding location like Kim K and Kanye, that doesn’t mean we can’t get ideas for our own special days. Here, I will break down one of 2020’s biggest wedding trends to think about when planning your own big day – all things wedding dresses and accessories, or should I say bridal blazers??
If you’ve always dreamed of wearing the big white gown on your special day, then there is no absence of options! But if, like oh so many other brides, you have NO idea what you want, you just know you want to look and feel like yourself – then look no further ladies and consider yourself lucky to be tying the knot in 2020!
BRIDAL BLAZERS
According to the other bible - Vogue, wedding pantsuits, jumpsuits and blazers are taking the wedding world by storm in the foreseeable future. The new generation of designers showed up and showed out at Bridal Fashion Week. We saw power blazers and pant suits all over the board at shows like Ines Di Santo, Danielle Frankel and Reema Acra just to name a few. Celebrities like Beyoncé, the Kardashian crew, Blake Lively and more have all taken the Chic and tailored (not to mention comfy) trend head on and we are here for it! It's perfect for the bride who doesn't want to wear a dress on her wedding day, but still wants to look fabulous.
STATEMENT VEILS
Still obsessing over Hailey Baldwin Biebers literal
statement veil? Despite all of the pre-wedding festivities
and elegant ceremony, it was Mrs. Bieber’s wedding dresses and statement
veil that stole the show. The veil, which was lined with matching Chantilly
lace & read, “‘Till death do us part,” at the bottom – ugh PERFECTION. Proving that your veil should be anything but an afterthought. It is definitely a 2020 trend that is going to inspire brides to make a flashy and fun statement on their own wedding day! A simple yet sassy twist to add a little more customization to your day to make it more unique to you and your partner!
We all know the “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue” saying that plays such a big role in wedding days Your “something blue” and a sweet statement all wrapped up in one – I love the idea of incorporating a special message or your initials and wedding date on your veil! From short and
sweet to long and flowy, blushes, creams, whites and every color in between –these show-stopping wedding veils left us all in ahhhh!
BRIDAL SUIT MEETS TRAIN
The rise of the jumpsuit/blazer has been nothing short of epic, and just because you’re wearing pants doesn’t mean you have to give up having that long, dramatic train! Bridal Fashion week showed up sleek trousers, tailored and paired with train – more of a modern take on a normal bridal gown train. The best part about it is that the skies the limit here – sometimes even in lace, exaggerated bows and more! “There is a certain maturity in the customer that is usually forgotten in bridal,” says Danielle Hirsh, of New York-based bridal label Danielle Frankel. “I design for the woman who is already well-acquainted with what works for her.” Having previously worked at Vera Wang and Marchesa, Danielle's elevated approach to fuss-free wedding suits, separates and even knits is attracting modern brides!
SPARKLES + GLITTER
While the days of big bling on wedding
gowns may be behind us, sparkle and shine is still trending in 2020 and I’m
honestly not mad about it! This time around we’re seeing more sequins, texture
on shiny beading and patterns, and a whole lot of glitter to go with it!
Somewhere between an edgy glam Rockstar and a mermaid princess?!
If our recent Pinterest searches tell us anything, it’s that
brides are fully on-board with the glitz and glam trend continuing on into
2020. No matter your style, whether its elegant, free-spirited, or ultra-glam,
there’s something perfect out there for
you!
SWEETHEART NECKLINE / OFF-THE-SHOULDER
Sweetheart necklines meet off-the-shoulder sleeves and all I have to say is I AM HERE FOR IT! Two of the most romantic styles become one in this up and coming trend. The silhouette is so flattering for all shapes and sizes and adds the perfect pinch of elegance and romance to your wedding day fit. We love a good crepe for a more modern take on the silhouette and especially love the lace gown, vintage inspired look as well!
BRIDAL CAPES
Hot off the press, were talking all things bridal capes. Although this isn’t necessarily part of the dress (although it could be), this 2020 trend is coming in hot! A cape is an accessory you should absolutely consider finishing off your perfect wedding day look. A cape adds a pinch of drama in a more modern way and your guests won’t be able to keep their eyes off of you in it!
Whether you’re looking to add some drama to your gown or your just needed a little added coverage, a cape makes for the perfect accessory. A cape is perfect for the bride (or bridal party) looking to enhance their look a little or fend off the cooler weather! Capes have become a more modern alternative to the veil and let’s just say they won’t be going away anytime soon!
If you’re rocking a simple dress like a clean strapless ditty or a satin slip dress, take the look up a notch with a beaded or embellished cape! This beaded cape showcases tiny pearls and sequin flowers for a fun twist!
